It took twice as long as we were told to arrive and the remote did not work right out of the box. Within five days the unit started turning off and not coming back on despite waiting for hours and room temperture dropping to the point the propane furnace came on. In order to get the unit to restart I had to turn the "power" button "off" and unplug the unit for anywhere from 5-20 minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on. Only after our experience did I look further into online reviews of EdenPure products which are not favorable. I also checked into BioTech Research (Canton, OH) through the Ohio Better Business Bureau and saw that BioTech has had numerous complaints from customers with similar problems. It's the EdenPure space heater .... a heater so "advanced," it can supposedly cut your heating bill up to 50%.The cost: $400...four times the price of most heaters. Our partners at Consumer Reports magazine have tested it and other heaters. Is the EdenPure Amazing? The results of the test of the heavily advertised EdenPure were not promising. The $400 EdenPure ended up at the bottom of the ratings. It was the worst performing of 20 space heaters tested. Top Performing Heaters Top rated: The Honeywell Electric heater HZ-519, for just $60. (It's sold by Home Depot and Amazon.com, among other stores, but it may be in short supply, due to Consumer Reports' review. I own several other space heaters including one 1500 watt unit with a fan and one 1500 watt oil filled radiator style heater. I can't tell any real difference in the heating ability of any of them except one thing...price. I purchased an oil filled radiant heater from Target for $28 which seems to do just as well as the edenpure which cost hundreds of dollars more. Not a good value. Reviews are mixed but the vast majority was satisfied. I compared brand names and it didn't really seem to matter the brand, reviews basically were the same across the board. So then I'm looking at price and features. I believe this is the one. I've had this for almost a month. It arrived within 1 week, no shipping damage at all, opened the box and plugged it in and it was heating. This unit is not cheaply made. It looks like a piece of furniture with the detail they put into this heater. I have it located in my kitchen which has sliding glass patio doors and tile flooring so it's usually 4 degrees colder. I use this in conjunction with my gas furnace. My furnace does not run as often since there is no more cold air drafting in from the kitchen. The infrared heater does not run all the time either. It takes a couple hours to warm up the area but it truly makes a difference. One of the biggest complaints I've read about... It heats our hallway, living room, and kitchen solidly at 73 degrees. We live in the northern valley of Vermont where winter, and cold is half of your year. I would completely recommend this product as a addition to your existing heating system. It does allow you to crank down the heat 8 degrees of whatever is normally comfortable. Do not expect this heater to heat your entire house, that's not its purpose, unless you live in Florida or something. I do foresee saving some propane this winter season so far, and hence it does it's job. I'd heard that it will really reduce heating costs. That part is true. We saved about $30 per month throughout winter. However, when I removed the product from the box and plugged it in the metal sides vibrated badly. There was a constant loud "hum" coming from the heater. It would quit buzzing when I put my hand on the side of it or placed a heavy book leaning against it. Well, that's not what I had in mind. I thought that the product had not been assembled properly so I boxed it up and returned it to the store. They gave me a new one and told me this was the first they'd heard about this problem. I took the new one home, plugged it in and...same thing! A loud buzzing noise. We kept it and placed it downstairs in the den. I guess one gets used to the noise after a while but not worth it. We also have an Eden Pure heater and it's much better. More expensive but well worth it. I hope this was helpful... I still need to winterize the windows, so I'd say it will be alright for the winter. My complaint is, I set the thermostat at 73 when it was down to 60 in here. The temp got to 81, and the heater was still running. I turned it off by the switch, and after a 1 min cool down, it stopped. When it cooled down in here to 70, I turned the heater back on but it didn't start. I raised the thermostat up to 80, then it started,,,I turned the thermostat back down to 73, and the same thing, it didn't shut off when it got warm in here. I am undecided to let it run through the night, but while I am awake, this heater will be great to use.
