Reviews are mixed but the vast majority was satisfied. I compared brand names and it didn't really seem to matter the brand, reviews basically were the same across the board. So then I'm looking at price and features. I believe this is the one. I've had this for almost a month. It arrived within 1 week, no shipping damage at all, opened the box and plugged it in and it was heating. This unit is not cheaply made. It looks like a piece of furniture with the detail they put into this heater. I have it located in my kitchen which has sliding glass patio doors and tile flooring so it's usually 4 degrees colder. I use this in conjunction with my gas furnace. My furnace does not run as often since there is no more cold air drafting in from the kitchen. The infrared heater does not run all the time either. It takes a couple hours to warm up the area but it truly makes a difference. One of the biggest complaints I've read about... It heats our hallway, living room, and kitchen solidly at 73 degrees. We live in the northern valley of Vermont where winter, and cold is half of your year. I would completely recommend this product as a addition to your existing heating system. It does allow you to crank down the heat 8 degrees of whatever is normally comfortable. Do not expect this heater to heat your entire house, that's not its purpose, unless you live in Florida or something. I do foresee saving some propane this winter season so far, and hence it does it's job. I'd heard that it will really reduce heating costs. That part is true. We saved about $30 per month throughout winter. However, when I removed the product from the box and plugged it in the metal sides vibrated badly. There was a constant loud "hum" coming from the heater. It would quit buzzing when I put my hand on the side of it or placed a heavy book leaning against it. Well, that's not what I had in mind. I thought that the product had not been assembled properly so I boxed it up and returned it to the store. They gave me a new one and told me this was the first they'd heard about this problem. I took the new one home, plugged it in and...same thing! A loud buzzing noise. We kept it and placed it downstairs in the den. I guess one gets used to the noise after a while but not worth it. We also have an Eden Pure heater and it's much better. More expensive but well worth it. I hope this was helpful... I still need to winterize the windows, so I'd say it will be alright for the winter. My complaint is, I set the thermostat at 73 when it was down to 60 in here. The temp got to 81, and the heater was still running. I turned it off by the switch, and after a 1 min cool down, it stopped. When it cooled down in here to 70, I turned the heater back on but it didn't start. I raised the thermostat up to 80, then it started,,,I turned the thermostat back down to 73, and the same thing, it didn't shut off when it got warm in here. I am undecided to let it run through the night, but while I am awake, this heater will be great to use. To start, don't expect it to heat 1200 sq ft, and don't expect the wood finish to be outstanding. The wood finish is not bad, but if viewed in direct sunlight you can see all the imperfections in the wood, though acceptable but not for a picky person. You can always refinish the wood, or darken the stain, so it does not bother me. The buttons make a beep sound when pushed, this could wake up the baby. The thermostat when cycling off and on make a faint clicking sound, this could also potentially wake up the baby. Now for the good stuff. It is a super solid unit with nice smooth casters for rolling, weighs in over 40 pounds. The electronics are really nice, the thermostat has a 2 degree F. range. I have had it more than a month so the electric bill came in and met my expectations. I turned down my 3500 sq.ft. home central heat from 71F to 69F. No use heating the entire house with all the kids gone. I use this heater for my bedroom during the night and set it for 73F. It brings the room to approximately 71F and turns off. Then it comes on for a minute for two every 15 minutes to maintain the temperature. I went to Harbor Freight and purchased a Digital Electrical Usage Tester to see how much power this heater is actually using. Turns out it uses 1350 Watts, 114 volts, and 11.8 Amps. If it stayed on all night this would be a energy hog, but since it only comes on approximately 4 times per hour, for a minute each time, the energy use is much less than my central air. Therefore my energy use went down for this past month since turning down my central heat and using this heater to heat my bedroom. Overall it met my expectations. Only one thing I had... It warms up my whole house and the best thing is it heats the same from the ceiling to floor. No cold spots. I have tried the so called twice the price heaters like this and they don't put out near as much heat as this one does. Plus my electric bill came today and it only went up 20 dollars. It has been very cold and I have been nice and warm thanks to this wonderful heater. It keeps my bedroom, Kitchen, Bathroom and den nice and warm. I thought about buying a nother one but I don't need one this one does the job. Although I want to buy one for my daughter to keep my grandson nice and warm and so it want dry out his little nose when he has a cold. That is another good thing about this heater it doesn't dry out the air. I highly recomened this to all my friends and family.
